Students from Rockville High School in Vernon placed third overall in the National Home Builders and Remodelers Association’s home design competition. These students are now working on their individual projects for the Student Design Competition at the 2018 Connecticut Home & Remodeling Show at the Connecticut Convention Center, March 2 – 4.

Fox 61 Stories of Hope

This group of Vernon students was featured on Fox 61’s “Stories of Hope” segment for their mostly female team. Each group was given some specs and a general design to start. They were then tasked with scheduling, marketing and pricing a home based on this data. Each team had to present and sell their projects to a panel of judges, made up of contractors and architects.

Just how dedicated are these Vernon students? The Home Builders Association Club is an after school activity for students who see a future career in home building.

“It’s about working together as a team, being detail-oriented and solving problems,” said Bonnie Beland, Tech Ed Teacher, Advisor. “You really have to attack these and figure out how to solve them, then come together as a team to make that happen.”
