Jobsite safety is a critical component of the residential construction industry. With more than 800 people killed in jobsite falls each year nationwide, builders are keenly aware of the risks involved in building homes. The Home Builders Association of Central Connecticut has made safety a key area of focus for our Association and our members. Since 2006, the HBRA has had an Alliance with OSHA to provide the most up to date information and resources. In 2007 and 2009, the HBRA of Central Connecticut was recognized on a national level as having the best Safety program of a local home builders association.
It is very important for every member to have a jobsite safety plan that is reviewed with their employees and subcontractors regularly. As the controlling contractor on the jobsite, builders and remodelers are compelled to ensure the proper precautions are taken every day so that every worker returns safety to their families at the end of the day.
The HBRA’s Safety Committee meets the first Thursday of each month in the HBRA office during lunch from 12 – 1:30 pm. All members are invited to attend. Please call 860-563-4212 for more information.

The videos below show how quickly workers can be injured or killed on the job and are intended to assist those in the industry to identify, reduce, and eliminate construction-related hazards. Most of the videos are 2 to 4 minutes long, presented in clear, easily accessible vocabulary, and show common construction worksite activities.
The videos may be used for employer and worker training. Each video presents:
- A worksite incident based on true stories that resulted in worker injury or death
- Corrective actions for preventing these types of accidents
